Practice Groups

Developmental Program (Minnows)

The Developmental or Minnows (MIN) group is designed for children ages 5 and older who are novices to the sport of swimming. Swimmers are taught the basics of the four competitive strokes and competition starts and turns, while building their endurance. Swimmers are introduced to competition through Developmental swim meets. Emphasis is placed on learning proper stroke technique, developing positive self-esteem, making new friends, and having fun! The main goal is to prepare swimmers for the COHO Age Group Program.  We recommend a minimum of 2-3 practices per week. The more often swimmers attend practice, the quicker they learn and perfect new skills.

Swim School sessions for Minnows will be held at Deerfield High School on some weekends during the season.  Participants will be given a schedule of these dates once the season begins.  The purpose of Swim School is to work on additional skills such as racing starts, and to introduce the swimmers to a regulation competition pool.
