The COHO Swim Club is a high quality competitive and comprehensive developmental program for residents in Deerfield, Highland Park, and surrounding communities. Founded in 1971, COHO has a long standing, rich tradition and history of success in swimming on the local, regional, and national levels.
We have over 300 registered swimmers annually and we are currently one of only 2 swim clubs in Illinois that has reached Level 3 of the USA Swimming Club Recognition Program. Our staff includes 3 full time and 10 to 12 part time, highly trained and dedicated coaches ranging from Level 1 to Level 4 of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA).
We focus on helping swimmers of all ages and abilities have fun, develop friendships, set goals, and experience success in the best possible team setting. We aim to instill a sense of Spirit, Character and Pride in all participants, and we strive to assist our swimmers in becoming outstanding individuals in all aspects of life, even beyond their athletic achievements.
Fall 2010 New Swimmer Tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday, August 31st from 6:00-7:30pm at the Sachs Recreation Center located at 455 Lake Cook Road in Deerfield.
For more information, please contact Jeff Napolski at: jeff@teamcoho.org.
You do not need to sign up or register to tryout, you can just show up that evening. New swimmers cannot register prior to trying out and being assigned to the appropriate practice group. All registration forms will be available at tryouts.
The minimum skill requirements for Coho are: Individuals ages 5 and over must be able to swim 1 length of continuous freestyle with rhythmic breathing (face in the water, turning the head to the side to breathe), 1 length of continuous backstroke, demonstrate basic breaststroke, be able to go underwater and touch the bottom of the pool in the shallow end, and be comfortable swimming in the deep end of the pool. Swimmers who can successfully complete this criterion will be placed in a group based on age and ability.
In keeping with our philosophy of providing a well-rounded and quality developmental and competitive program for swimmers of all ages and abilities, COHO offers professional technique instruction and training. COHO is divided into Developmental, Age Group, Junior, Senior and Masters Programs.
Within the Age Group Program there are three practice groups based on age and ability. Within the Senior Program there are two practice groups based on ability and level of commitment. Within our Masters Program there are two sections based on how many weekly practices you wish to attend. This system allows our coaching staff to meet the individual needs of each swimmer. The frequency and length of practices depends on the group. At tryouts swimmers will be assigned to either our Developmental Program or to a a specific practice group in our Age Group Program. Swimmers must follow the specific schedule for their assigned group.
Masters and High School swimmers do not need to tryout. Masters may register at any time during a season. High School swimmers may sign up for the Senior I group without a tryout. If you are interested in Senior Elite you must contact Head Coach Nancy Reese to set up a meeting.
If you are switching from another team you must complete the ISI transfer form (available at tryouts). Please mention when signing in at tryouts if you have been registered with another club. If you have extensive age group swimming experience and are interested in our Junior Program please contact Head Age Group Coach Jacob Weber.
